The full breakdown.
Stamp Sidebar
Your marks. One fluid gesture.
Create text-based stamps for any annotation you use. Approval marks, editorial shorthand, your own codes, any system you prefer. Each stamp has configurable font, size, colour, and styling. Stamps live in a sidebar that swipes in from the side. Drag onto the page, done. They persist across documents.
AI Proofreading
AI assists. You decide.
On-device AI using Apple’s Foundation Models flags spelling, grammar, and consistency issues for your review. This isn’t autocorrect. The AI highlights what it found; you decide what to stamp. Bring your own API key for cloud models when you need deeper analysis. Your documents stay private by default.
Text Selection
Selection that doesn’t fight you.
Custom text selection engine with a smooth green overlay, built for precision. Mark up with highlights, underlines, or strikethroughs. Customisable colours. Works consistently regardless of how the PDF was created.
Toolbar Presets
Keep your regular marks one tap away.
Pin favourite stamps, pen setups, marker colours, and text styles directly to the toolbar. Stamp presets appear as small coloured chips, so repeated marks are always close without reopening a panel. In Split View or Stage Manager, drag the toolbar grips to rebalance tabs, presets, and tools. Stampede remembers the layout.
Text & Sticky Notes
Beyond stamps. Type directly on the page.
Text annotations (typewriter) let you place editable text anywhere on the PDF. An instruction for the typesetter, a query for the author, a correction that needs more than a stamp. Tap to type, position it where it belongs, and adjust font, size, colour, and styling to suit. Sticky notes work differently: a small icon that expands to reveal your comment, keeping the page clean. Both are fully editable after placement — tap any annotation to change its text or delete it entirely.
Research Panel
Look it up without leaving the page.
Select any text, tap Research. A grid of buttons takes your selection straight to Google, Wikipedia, Merriam-Webster, Perplexity AI — or any reference site you add. No switching apps, no copying and pasting, no losing your place. Select, tap, answer. All without leaving the page.
Search
Find the text you wrote, too.
Search is not limited to the PDF itself. Stampede can browse your own annotations — stamp labels, text boxes, and sticky note contents — so you can jump back to every query, exhibit mark, or repeated correction in a long document.
Freehand Drawing
When stamps and highlights aren’t enough.
Pen, marker, eraser, and arrow tools. Works with Apple Pencil or finger. Line straightening, snap-to-axis, movable strokes, resize handles, and standard PDF ink export keep hand-drawn marks precise without trapping them inside Stampede.
Reading Modes
Kind to your eyes.
Sepia, green, and dark reading overlays that reduce eye strain without altering the PDF. Adjustable opacity. Comfortable reading on demand.
Multi-Tab
Several documents. Separate undo stacks.
Open multiple PDFs in tabs. Each document maintains its own annotations, scroll position, zoom level, and undo history (up to 50 operations). Useful for cross-referencing, comparing versions, or having your style guide alongside the manuscript.
Export
Send it how they need it.
Editable export, flattened export, or annotated pages only. Or generate an annotation summary — a plain text file listing every mark with its page number, ready to share with collaborators. Send via Files, email, Messages, AirDrop — whatever works.
